The Jewel of San Diego is a beach community with over 40,000 residents. The area is surrounded on three sides by beautiful beaches and ocean bluffs. In 2008 and 2009, La Jolla was reported to have the highest home prices IN THE NATION (average price of $1.842 Mill in 2008, $2.125 Mill in 2009)! The vast view from the top of Mt. Soledad, a government owned national monument located in the center of La Jolla, gives perspective on most of San Diego, and is home to the controversial Mount Soledad Easter Cross. Cascading down the side of Mt. Soledad are mansions owned by Hollywood celebrities, national sports stars, and international millionaires. This plethora of wealth floods into the dreamy coastline, where many tourists enjoy weather averaging 70°, five-star restaurants, and state of the art entertainment. La Jolla is also home to UCSD, a leading research facility for the sciences. La Jolla hosts an annual PGA event (formerly called the Buick Invitational and renamed Farmers Insurance Open) each January/February at the Torrey Pines Golf Course. The famous de facto nude Blacks beach located in Torrey Pines sits below the Gliderport where many adventurers experiment with hang gliding and paragliding. Traveling south from Torrey Pines leads to the luscious sands of La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove. La Jolla Cove is home to a “Children’s Pool” which has been turned into a Seal reservation, providing entertainment for animal lovers around the world.
